The proudest moment of my career so far, Quinceys speech at the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce Inc Business Excellence Awards after winning the 2024 Apprentice/Trainee of the Year Award. If you’ve ever have the pleasure of meeting or working with this young man you’ll understand why he was so deserving of this award. I’m definitely going to have to start preparing my speech now for our SBT Graduation Ceremony in September, not sure how I’ll top this one! I am thrilled to share that Quincey Pako, one of my School Based Trainees, has been honoured with the 2024 Apprentice/Trainee of the Year award at the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce Inc Business Excellence Awards! I often speak of my immense pride in my trainees, and Quincey's achievement underscores this wholeheartedly.Beyond the awards, what truly touches me is seeing my trainees' growth throughout their journey. Last night, being affectionately dubbed "Work Mum" by my trainees was incredibly moving, and a title I will hold close to my heart.Quincey's heartfelt speech brought tears to my eyes, and this award is a testament not only to his dedication but also to the unwavering support of his family.It's also a significant recognition of the incredible teams at BHP (big shout out to Track Maintenance & Flashbutt Fixed Line!) that have embraced Quincey and all our trainees, nurturing their skills and potential.Congratulations, Quincey! Friday was an exciting day at the WA Training Awards judging day down in Perth,celebrating Taya's incredible achievement in reaching the semi-finals! It was fantastic to see Taya, one of our standout School Based Trainees, being recognised among the top contenders from across the state (three from Port Hedland!)– alongside her twin sister, no less!Being there to support her through the nerves and excitement of facing the judging panel was such a privilege. Congratulations to Taya and all the nominees for their outstanding achievements and best of luck to everyone!

9 years ago, OCRS, LOHS and PPE were just jumbles of letters to me, and my knowledge of the mining industry was limited to what I'd read or heard from my Dad, husband, and siblings over the years.Back then, I was an Education Assistant specialising in phonological awareness for Year 2 and 3 students!Fast forward: Today, 3 out of 4 people in this pic have worked on this site, and I've not only deciphered these acronyms (plus a few more!), but I've also ventured into a completely different industry!It's been an incredible journey of stepping out of my comfort zone, supported by the amazing people around me. Taking that leap of faith has opened doors to opportunities I never imagined possible. Remember, don't be afraid to try something new—sometimes, that's where the magic happens!
